Be prepared and get a pre-approved mortgage before looking for your home. It is a full mortgage application leading to a commitment, subject to property appraisal and other requirements once you find the right property. You will have greater confidence and negotiating power with this pre-approval letter in hand.

  • $200 processing fee is credited towards the closing costs when you finance with SCU Credit Union.
  • First-time home buyers get a $1,000 closing cost credit when they use Smart Start pre-approval and close their purchase with SCUCU. Plus, all other Smart Start pre-approvals will receive a $525 closing cost credit upon loan closing with SCU Credit Union.

How to Create an Online Account for the Smart Start Program:

Follow these simple steps to set up your account and get started with your Smart Start Program application.

Step 1: Visit the Smart Start Program Application Page. This is where you'll begin the account creation process.

Step 2: Click "Create Account". Once on the application page, locate and click the "Create Account" button to start.

Step 3: Set Up Your Username and Password

  • Choose a secure username that's easy to remember.

  • Create a strong password with at least 8 characters, including upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and a special character (!, $, #, etc.) for added security.

Step 4: Verify Your Email Address

Check the inbox for the email address you provided during setup. Look for a verification email from us and click the link within the email to confirm your account. (Tip: Check your spam or junk folder just in case!)

Step 5: Log in to Your New Account

With your email verified, return to the Smart Start application page. Use your newly created username and password to log in.

Step 6: Start Your Application

After logging in, you'll be prompted to begin your Smart Start application. Enter all your personal information accurately to avoid delays in the application process.
